I was once a Evangelical Christian. I did the whole laying on of hands, speaking in tongues and general spouting of hate. Of course I didn't realize that is what I was doing. I thought what I was doing was spreading love. I consider myself blessed that I was able to break free of the bondage of religion and can now express my true self.
A great man once said, "You must be the change that you want to see in the world." I hope to change every day.
What about Paul?
Jesus didn't specifically condemn homosexuality, but Paul definitely did. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 for example is pretty unambiguous. Jesus specifically condemned any sexuality (lust or act) outside of marriage as sinful. It's unlikely that a 1st-century Jewish preacher would have recognized a same-sex marriage. It's incredibly difficult to justify anything about modern society using Iron Age Jewish literature without ignoring large parts of it.
Rites of Brotherhood
John Boswell wrote a book called "Same-Sex Unions in Pre-modern Europe." In that book he presents historical evidence. Of course, there are many debunkers that try to explain away his evidence, but personally I think it is up to the individual to decide for himself what to believe or not believe. Here is a link to a book review that explains a lot of it. http://gaybookreviews.info/review/3289/709
I love this Quote:
The Bible contains 256 references to the sins of heterosexuals, and only 4 to the sins of homosexuals. I’m not implying that God hates heterosexuals; they just need more supervision. – Ocevia, Nation States Forums
The 'No blended fabrics' command is a great example of Christian cherry-picking.
